The Zito Trust was set up in July 1994 following the publication of the report into the care and treatment of the community care patient who killed Jonathan Zito in 1992. The objectives of the Trust are as follows:
- To influence mental health policy in order to effect change.
- To provide a comprehensive and meaningful support and advice service to the victims of the failure of community mental health services.
- To undertake and publish research.
The principal aim of the support and advice service is to guide families, members of the public, professional and informal carers and others through what can be some complex and traumatic experiences, particularly in cases involving extreme violence where the services have failed to provide effective care and treatment to those in need. Further information is available on the Trust's website.
