Whizz-Kidz, a national children's charity, aims to improve the quality of life of disabled children and young people (0-18 years) in the UK through the provision of customized mobility equipment (not available on the NHS) such as powered, manual and sports wheelchairs, specially adapted tricycles, bicycles, buggies and walking aids. It is dedicated to providing help and advice to the children and their families and to raising awareness of mobility-related issues through national campaigning.
The charity's national team of qualified mobility therapists personally assess each child to ensure that mobility equipment to suit each child's individual needs is provided. Applications are strictly assessed on the child's social and clinical needs.
Whizz-Kidz operates a joint funding policy that means a child's mobility equipment could be provided in conjunction with the NHS Wheelchair Service and Voucher Scheme, with health, education or social services, other charities, or through money raised by the child's local community. Some form of parental contribution is also expected.
