The Vulval Pain Society was established in 1996 to bring basic information and support to women with vulval pain. Its aims are:

• To provide sufferers with an increase in understanding on the terminology, causes, investigations, and treatments of vulval pain through a quarterly workshop in the UK.
• To raise awareness of vulval pain as an important aspect of women's health to the general public via the media.

There are already a couple of successful support groups around the country which they liaise with. They do not encourage women to self-diagnose symptoms, but suggest that a doctor see them before following any of the advice given by the society. The Vulval Pain Society is run by volunteers and is not externally funded or attached to any health service organisation.
