Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) is a self-help, voluntary organisation in which many of those helping have themselves been bereaved by suicide. SOBS exists to meet the needs and break the isolation of those bereaved by the suicide of a close relative or friend. Emotional and practical support is offered in the following ways.
  • Telephone helpline
  • Group meetings (in a number of locations)
  • One-day conferences
  • Residential events
  • Bereavement packs
  • Information relating to practical issues and problems
SOBS aims to provide a safe confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings, so giving and gaining support. SOBS also strives to improve public awareness and maintains contacts with many other statutory and voluntary organisations. SOBS groups are open to all over the age of 18, regardless of social, ethnic or cultural background.
