The Stroke Association is a UK wide charity dealing with stroke in people of all ages. They offer a one off welfare grant for which an application must be made by a professional, such as GP, social worker or physiotherapist. The Association's: Stroke Information Service provides timely, accurate and personalised information. The service is delivered through a dedicated helpline, including a multilingual service, emails and letters.
Publications: free quarterly magazine - Stroke News, quarterly e-publication - Stroke Matters for professionals in health and social care. Six core leaflets, over 40 factsheets and a number of resource sheets covering the many unique aspects of stroke. These can all be downloaded free of charge from the information section of their website.
Activities: they maintain a central information service and a network of regional offices. The Association encourages the formation of stroke clubs (currently around 500). It also offers community services - a rehabilitation service for people who have lost the power of speech due to a stroke and a Family & Carers Support service to help to prepare families for the challenge of life after a stroke. The Stroke Association funds research into stroke prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and long-term care.
