St John Ambulance is a charitable organisation with its members committed to teaching, providing first aid, and caring for people. The organisation is the single largest provider of public first aid services in the UK and its volunteer members give first aid and medical support services at many public events. It is also active in the following other areas:

• First aid training is provided for children in schools, the general public, and the workforce.
• A youth organisation provides the opportunity for young people to develop personal and social skills through participation in a structured programme of activities within the context of first aid and care.
• Caring services within the community are provided including respite care and training for carers, weekend respite units for the elderly in some areas, library service to those in hospital and residential care homes, and a new programme to meet the health needs of the homeless.
