Typetalk is the national telephone relay service for deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired and deafblind. Typetalk connects people using a textphone with people using a telephone. Relay assistants provide a text-to-voice and voice-to-text relay service.
- The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round.
- RNID works in partnership with BT to provide Typetalk. BT funds the service and provides the access technology, called TextDirect, whilst RNID manages the service and its employees.
- Access to Typetalk is free. Simply prefix the full telephone number including the STD code of the person you wish to call with 18001 if you are a textphone user and 18002 if you are a hearing person.
