OAASIS - the Office for Advice, Assistance, Support and Information on Special Needs - provides a free information and advice service for parents, teachers and other professionals with an interest in special education for children and young adults, especially autism spectrum disorders and asperger syndrome.
OAASIS can help in the following areas:
- Information on the diagnosis you have received about your child.
- Information on the statementing process.
- Information on what special help your child should be getting in school if he/she has special needs.
- Finding a national or local parent support group for a particular learning difficulty.
- Advice on finding a suitable special school for your child if he/she cannot cope in mainstream.
- Providing you with a list of specialist legal teams who can support you through the tribunal and appeal process.
- ASD specific advisor for advice on home and school behaviour issues.
- List of holiday/respite, private assessment centres, adult homes etc.
