National Treatment Agency
Web: www.nta.nhs.uk
The National Treatment Agency (NTA) is a special health authority to improve the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England. In other words, to ensure that there is more treatment, better treatment, and fairer treatment available to all those who need it.
Their overall purpose is to:
- Double the number of people in effective, well-managed treatment from 100,000 in 1998 to 200,000 in 2008
- Increase the proportion of people who successfully complete or, if appropriate, continue treatment.
A section of their website - www.nta.nhs.uk/about_treatment/Who_provides_treatment.aspx - also includes:
- A directory of residential rehabilitation services in England and Wales for adult drug and alcohol misusers.
- A directory of young people's substance misuse services in England.
Note: the NTA is not a drug treatment service
