The National Star College is a national residential college serving students with physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties. Examples of students' disabilities are: cerebral palsy, dystrophies, spina bifida. The buildings and facilities are designed to meet the needs of these students.

Major emphasis is on the identification of existing and potential abilities and their development in order to maximise the present and future quality of life for each college student. Educational focus is on vocational studies to raise the level of employability of the students and to enable progress to further study or training and skills for life to maximise the opportunities for independent living.

A variety of courses are offered including: Skills for Adult Life, Skills for Working Life, Business Studies, Creative Arts, Health & Social Care, Information Technology, Performing Arts, Sport and Recreation.
