- 90% are born to hearing parents with little experience of deafness.
- Deafness makes it harder for children to learn to communicate.
- Many families face challenges in establishing good communication with their deaf children.
- 40% of deaf children also have additional needs or disabilities.
- At any one time 1 in 5 preschoolers have glue ear which causes temporary deafness.
