NDCS, the National Deaf Children's Society, is a UK charity solely dedicated to the support of all deaf children and young deaf people up to 19, their families and professionals working with them.

NDCS is an organisation of families, parents and carers, providing emotional and practical support through their freephone helpline, their network of trained support workers, their wide range of other support services, publications and website.

Why are they there?

There are over 45,000 deaf children in the UK and four more are born deaf every day.

• 90% are born to hearing parents with little experience of deafness.
• Deafness makes it harder for children to learn to communicate.
• Many families face challenges in establishing good communication with their deaf children.
• 40% of deaf children also have additional needs or disabilities.
• At any one time 1 in 5 preschoolers have glue ear which causes temporary deafness.
