NCIUA - National Cochlear Implant Users Association

70 Sycamore Road
Amersham Bucks

The Association was founded in the mid 1990s to provide a clear voice for the growing number of people in the UK with (or requiring) cochlear implants.

The aims of the Association are to:
  • Campaign for funding through the NHS for all who need cochlear implants regardless of where they live in the United Kingdom.
  • Campaign for quality support services for all users - actual and potential.
  • Promote a nationwide network of local support groups.
  • Work to increase public awareness of the benefits of cochlear implants.
  • Liaise with implant centres and cochlear implant manufacturers.
  • Foster and maintain links with related organisations including EURO-CIU (European Association of Cochlear Implant Users).
Membership is open to cochlear implant users (actual or prospective), their partners, parents of a child with a cochlear implant, family and friends as well as professionals in cochlear implant related work and corporate bodies. There are members all over the UK who receive newsletters and invitations to meetings in different parts of the country.

A booklet giving the experiences of 18 recipients of cochlear implants ranging across the ages of childhood to retirement is available. Details from the above address or via email.
