National Bullying Helpline

15 Dorcan Business Village
Murdock Road
Swindon
SN3 5HY

Helpline: 0845 22 55 787
Web: www.nationalbullyinghelpline.co.uk

The National Bullying Helpline is a charity set up to help both employees and employers eradicate bullying in the workplace and now also provides assistance to children and schools. They provide free support to both employees and employers with dispute resolution issues. They provide advice to callers about process, statutory rights and statutory obligations. They work closely with employment law solicitors and HR consultants (for investigation and mediation services) and can refer callers on to expert advisers. About 80% of their calls at the helpline are from the public sector (NHS, education, emergency services etc).

Their mission statement states - "Our Mission is to:

  • Provide professional, timely, advice to those who need our support, whether this is an employee, an employer, an adult or a child.
  • Specialise in the arena of Dispute Resolution, providing mediation, facilitation services and development training. To constantly strive towards a stress-free workplace in the interests of all.
  • Work towards reduced risk of unwanted, unnecessary and costly litigation. To assist with bringing Tribunal Statistics down and help parties in conflict to identify mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Endorse national and international (European) statutory standards, encouraging operational compliance. We insist on high standards of conduct, dignity and respect in the workplace - at all times. It’s not just about the written policy. It’s about believing in your policies, communicating them and living by them.
  • Promote excellence through research and collaboration, supporting our Government, the CIPD and all exemplars and leaders of workplace best practice standards.
  • Ensure no ‘one person’ makes another feel inferior no matter who they are or what their status is. We passionately commit to this fundamental concept, stamping out inappropriate abuse of power.
  • Champion those whose personality does not enable them to stand up to a bully. We will promote organisations who support this belief and who, through support, enable us to help the weaker person.
  • Research innovative and improved working practises and methodologies, constantly and consistently and through development and training promote ‘models of excellence’ in industry, at all levels, nationally.
  • Lead in conflict resolution. The National Bullying Helpline is becoming better known as ever more cases come to light through media intervention and/or special anti-bullying anniversaries and initiatives. Help us to spread the word.
  • Develop partnership packages with all who share this, our vision and mission statement."
