The Micro & Anophthalmic Children's Society (MACS) was formed in 1993 as a source of mutual support for families with children suffering from these rare conditions in the UK and around the world. MACS is a registered charity run entirely by volunteer parents and relies solely on donations. The Society helps families with children either blind or visually impaired by anophthalmia, microphthalmia or coloboma. The aims of the group are as follows:

  • Discovering a child is visually impaired or blind can be a devastating experience for parents. The group aims to offer emotional and practical support from parents who have been through similar experiences.
  • To put families in touch with others who have similar problems.
  • To arrange an annual family weekend so that parents and children can meet to discuss issues and give encouragement.
  • To produce regular newsletters.
  • To acquire computer technology for the production of large print and Braille books for the benefit of children.
  • To collate and distribute information and become a national resource for parents and professionals.
