Mellow Parenting is an international organisation delivering high quality training in its family of evidence based parenting programmes. Training is delivered to local authority and NHS staff as well as voluntary agencies working with the most vulnerable families in society.

Mellow Babies and Mellow Parenting are evaluated programmes which have been shown to be effective in engaging hard to reach families with children under five and babies under one, and in helping them make changes in their relationships with their children.

Mellow Parenting evaluations demonstrate that compared with other parenting programmes run in family centres, this programme improves: mother child interaction, child behaviour problems, mother's well-being, mother's effectiveness and confidence in parenting.

Mellow Babies research has shown improvement in maternal depression, parent-child interaction and a reduction in the need for child protection registration and measures of care.

Mellow Bumps is a new antenatal programme for mums-to-be with additional health and social care needs and has recently been added to their family of parenting programmes. Preliminary results indicate significant reductions in self-reported anxiety and outward-directed irritability within the mums-to-be attending the groups.

Sure Start Children's centre Practice Guidelines recommend Mellow Parenting as an effective evaluated programme, Mellow Parenting meets the criteria recognised by the NICE guidelines for effective parenting programmes and is on the Commissioning Toolkit of Parenting Programmes.

How do you access the programme?

Mellow Parenting does not directly run groups itself but trains professionals to run the group according to the original model. If you are a parent or carer looking for help and you think Mellow Parenting might be helpful to you, please ask your GP, health visitor or social worker who may be able to refer you to a group in your local area.
