MERU is a charity which custom designs and manufactures aids and equipment for children and young adults with disabilities (aged from birth to 24), when their needs cannot be met by commercially available products.

Equipment manufactured by MERU includes seating, desks and bed adaptations, communication aid and PC access devices, learning and leisure toys, mobility aids, and items to help with daily living (eg feeding, bathing, toileting, etc), as well as therapeutic equipment.

MERU has only a small team of engineers (staff, volunteer and student), so preference is usually given to clients living or being educated in London and the South East. Clients from other areas may be accepted but this is more likely if they are able to travel to MERU's headquarters in Surrey for assessments.

Youngsters must be referred to MERU by or with the support of a health or social care professional who is working with them. MERU does not make equipment that can be purchased elsewhere.

The service is free to end users but a small contribution towards the cost is usually sought from the client's local health trust, social services department or education authority as appropriate.

Application forms are available on the charity's website or by telephone.
