The Hearing Aid Council was established under the Hearing Aid Council Act 1968 to regulate those who dispense hearing aids in the private sector. It is a criminal offence for anyone to dispense hearing aids privately without being registered with the Council. Registration is only achieved after examination. The Council produces a code of practice with which all dispensers and their employees must comply. It also provides information on consumer protection and complaints procedures.
