Gardening Leave provides Horticultural therapy for serving and ex-serving personnel, in walled gardens.

There are currently 4 projects in operation, 3 in Scotland and 1 in London.

Over the next 5 years the Board plans to start Gardening Leave projects exclusively for Armed Forces personnel in walled gardens UK wide.

Each project is run by a Horticultural Therapist whose job is to assess, monitor and evaluate the personnel in her care and to provide horticultural activity which is relevant to their emotional, cognitive and physical presentation on any given day, 12 months of the year.

Personnel can choose to engage in the life cycle of the garden as much or as little as they want, some are keen to learn veg growing skills they can try at home, and others are happy just to be in a safe, peaceful environment with other like-minded people.
