Deafblind UK has the following objectives.
- To enable those people with a dual sensory impairment to live full and active lives despite their disability.
- To teach and encourage touch-based communication systems.
- To raise awareness of deafblindness in the caring professions and amongst the wider public, and to ensure that the needs of deafblind people are appropriately met in health / community care planning.
The organisation's activities include the following:
- Visiting / assessing deafblind individuals.
- Participation in national developmental / lobbying groups.
- Contributing to individual community care plans.
- Information and advice on dual sensory loss.
- Social activities for deafblind people; rehabilitation services; holiday flat.
- Independent living accommodation.
- Linking deafblind people through magazines and newspapers in touch-based media.
- International representation.
- Support for families and friends of deafblind members.
