CRY is a charity that offers help, support and counselling to families where there has been a sudden cardiac death of an apparently fit and healthy young person (sudden death syndrome). CRY was founded in 1995 by a bereavement counsellor with the aim of helping families who had suffered from a young sudden cardiac death and of campaigning for cardiac testing. The group has the following aims:

  • To emphasise the considerable amount that can be done if the condition is diagnosed.
  • To support medical research into sudden death syndrome.
  • To offer counsel and support to families affected.
  • To highlight the symptoms.
  • To put in place a national testing programme.

CRY produces a leaflet and a free information brochure which gives medical information and includes general information on CRY.

CRY's medical information includes the major causes of unexpected sudden cardiac death in the young which are the following: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy, Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Myocarditis, Coronary Artery Disease, Long QT Syndrome, Wolff (Wolfe)-Parkinson-White, Coronary Artery Anomalies, Marfans, Endocardial Fibroelastosis, Restrictive Cardiomyopathy.
