CHARGE is the name given to a condition that has a number of associated anomalies. Initials of the most common features make up the name. These are as follows.

• Coloboma
• Heart defects
• Atresia of the choanae
• Retardation of growth and developmental delay
• Genital abnormalities
• Ear anomalies

The Family Support Group offers families with affected children, teenagers and adults the chance to meet, make contact by letter or telephone, and share information. This is particularly useful for families with a child who has just been diagnosed. The group produces a newsletter three times a year and arranges an annual get-together at various locations in the UK.

Membership of the group is free but it relies on donations to function. New families can simply be added to the mailing list or may wish to become more actively involved. The group keeps a database of families which can be used for helping provide support and advice.
