The British Association of Skin Camouflage (BASC) was formed in 1986 by Joyce Allsworth as a result of the need to promote, support and further the principles and skills of a para-medical skin camouflage.
Their objective is to alleviate the psychological, physical and social effects that an altered image can have on people's lives by the simple application of specialised products.
They are acknowledged as being the leading training provider and are accredited by the Royal College of Nursing, the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists and the Hair and Beauty Industry Authority.
Features of the BASC's service are as follows;
- Skin camouflage can be applied to healed, sealed skin and is suitable for most non-infectious skin conditions.
- The camouflage is designed to conceal and blend in with the surrounding skin colour.
- The camouflage is waterproof and has a degree of emollient and sun protection properties.
- It is preferable to see someone trained in this specialism who can advise you on the product best suited to your skin and lifestyle.
- Anyone can take advantage of the service provided by the BASC Graduates within the NHS and private practice.
- Consultations take approximately one hour, during this time you will take part in the skin-matching process and be taught how to apply, manage and effectively remove your skin camouflage.
- If you have an allergy or sensitivity you should consult your doctor and advise the camouflage technician accordingly.
- BASC does not endorse or sell products - most products recommended for use are available through the NHS and can be prescribed at your doctor's discretion (alternatively, the products can be obtained as over the counter sales)
BASC graduates pride themselves on the principles and skills they practice and their role in helping others to face the world with confidence.
