Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) causes an interruption of the foetal development of the reproductive system resulting in abnormal development of reproductive organs and sometimes genitalia. There are two forms: complete (CAIS) and partial (PAIS).

AIS has the following synonyms: Androgen Resistance Syndrome, Testicular Feminisation Syndrome, Feminizing Testes Syndrome, Male Psuedo-hermaphroditism, Goldberg-Maxwell Syndrome (CAIS), Morris's Syndrome (CAIS), Lubs Syndrome (PAIS), Reifenstein Syndrome (PAIS), Gilbert-Dreyfus syndrome (PAIS), Rosewater Syndrome (PAIS). Other XY conditions: 5 alpha-reductase deficiency, 17 keto-steroid reductase deficiency, XY gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer Syndrome), Denys-Drash Syndrome, Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome. XX conditions: Mayer Rokitansky Kuster Hauser (MRKH) Syndrome, Mullerian dysgenesis.

The AIS Support Group provides information and support to individuals/families with AIS and similar conditions: XY gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer’s syndrome), 5 alpha-reductase deficiency, leydig cell hypoplasia, MRKH syndrome, etc.
