UK Advocacy Network - UKAN - is the Federation of Independent Patients Councils, Advocacy Projects and User Forums for Mental Health Service Users. The organisation actively promotes user empowerment and user involvement in the choosing, monitoring and running of mental health services. UKAN is involved in the following activities:
- Assistance, network contacts for any new groups.
- Promote user participation and independent advocacy in any mental health setting.
- Training - help and training materials.
- Information base.
- Lobby government and statutory bodies.
- National voice, promoting user issues and equal opportunities.
UKAN's facilities include the following:
- Elected regional representatives.
- Co-operation with national user-run groups.
- Part of international network.
- Newsletter.
- Providing speakers and training for events.
