SCIM offer counselling support to women and their families following miscarriage. They have been working with families since 1994 who have suffered miscarriage and their own personal experience of this type of loss, has provided them with some understanding of the real issues surrounding miscarriage. The support offered is also extended throughout future pregnancies, should this be required.
There are many different types of counselling. SCIM counsellors work in a Person - Centred way. The Person -Centred approach is based on the idea that every person has within themselves the resources for self - understanding, at SCIM their counsellors can help you to develop these resources.
SCIM also provide telephone support and a resource room which contains books, information on miscarriage related topics. They have also put together a programme of practical ways to address stress and anxiety which may occur following miscarriage.
They provide further information in booklet and leaflet form. Some of these include;
- Covering medical matters relating to miscarriage which includes general causes,different types of miscarriage, medical terms and the physical aspects of pregnancy loss.
- Caring for those who have miscarried
- A guide for helpers and carers,GP's medical staff, health visitors, and family members.
