Relate Scotland was originally formed under the name of the Scottish Marriage Guidance Council. The sister organisation in England and Wales is Relate. It is a Scottish charity established to do the following:
- Promote, develop and co-ordinate a confidential counselling service throughout Scotland for people in marriage and other intimate personal relationships.
- Ensure the maintenance of a high level of standards, practice, and quality assurance of Relate Scotland services as delivered by member organisations through selection, training, supervision and accreditation of relate counsellors.
- Provide information and conduct research on aspects of marriage and other intimate personal relationships and family life.
- Develop working relationships with persons and organisations concerned with marriage and family life.
The Couple Counselling Service to clients is delivered by 14 member, local services based throughout Scotland. Each service is a registered charity in its own right. Services include the following.
- Face to face counselling.
- Psychosexual specialist therapy.
- Telephone helpline.
- Surviving the break-up groups.
