Parenting UK is the national organisation for people who work with parents. Their aim is to promote best practice in all parenting services. To do this they:

  • Developed the National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents.
  • Support and share good practice wherever it is found.
  • Keep members informed about new developments in the field and provide them with opportunities to network.
  • Engage with and inform policy makers.

Working with parents encompasses a diverse range of learning opportunities and supportive activities. It enables parents, prospective parents and those in a parenting role to improve their understanding of their own and their children's personal, social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs and the context in which family life takes place. This enhances family life and the contribution which families make to society.

Many of their publications are available for free on the above website.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
