PAPYRUS is a voluntary organisation committed to the prevention of young suicide and the promotion of mental health and well being. It was founded in 1997 by parents who had lost a son or daughter to suicide. PAPYRUS is involved in the following activities.
- Providing useful information for concerned parents/carers of suicidal young people.
- Promoting public awareness.
- Co-operating as an organisation with professional and voluntary bodies working in the suicide prevention field.
- Encouraging and/or taking part in research into suicide prevention.
- Being represented in policy-making decisions at all levels.
- Promoting the inclusion of good mental health policies in schools, colleges and universities.
- Ensuring that adequate mental health services are available for young people.
Whilst suicide prevention in the young is PAPYRUS' primary focus, their interest and concern encompasses all age groups.
The Helpline named HOPELineUK offers professional help, practical advice and information to the parents, carers, teachers, professionals and friends of young people at risk of suicide.
Booklets are available to dowload from their website in PDF form.
