The Organisation of Blind African Caribbeans was formed in 1988 to provide information, advice and support to visually impaired members of the African and Caribbean community. OBAC exists to ensure blind and partially sighted Africans and Caribbeans can access relevant services and influence decision and policy makers, to enable them to overcome barriers that prevent them becoming active members of the community. OBAC's aims and objectives in helping blind and partially sighted African Caribbeans are as follows.
- To aid this group by provision of an Information and Advice Centre.
- To enhance their education by provision of work-related training.
- To provide advice and information regarding their special needs and a social network to relieve isolation.
- To disseminate information in the appropriate medium ie Braille, Large Print and Audio Tape.
- Befriending and reading.
- Welfare Rights.
- Counselling.
- Advocacy.
- Outreach.
- Transcription.
- Jobsearch.
- Training
