The Association was founded in the mid 1990s to provide a clear voice for the growing number of people in the UK with (or requiring) cochlear implants. The Association is involved in the following activities.
- Campaigning for funding for implants for all who need them.
- Campaigning for adequate support services for users - including children.
- Working for public awareness of the benefits of cochlear implants.
- Promoting a nationwide network of support groups.
- Liaising with implant centres and the cochlear implants manufacturers.
- Fostering and maintaining links with related organisations.
Membership is open to cochlear implant users (actual or prospective), their partners, parents of a child with a cochlear implant, family and friends as well as professionals in cochlear implant related work and corporate bodies. There are members all over the UK who receive a quarterly newsletters and invitations to meetings in different parts of the country.
