The National Association of Local Societies for Visually Impaired People (NALSVI) was formed in 1991. The aim is to support the goal of independence for visually impaired people by promoting the crucial role of the UK's network of independent local charities for blind and partially sighted people.

NALSVI seeks to

  • Represent the collective voice of local societies.
  • Bring together the experience and expertise within the network.
  • Influence and support the development of local societies' services.
  • Bring about improvements in the quality and breadth of local services.

The Association has formulated the following statements of its vision, mission and aims:

NALSVI's vision is to enable blind and partially sighted people to have the opportunity to access appropriate support services to achieve the highest quality of independence and competence.

NALSVI's mission is to represent and promote at national and local levels the membership comprising local organisations for people with visual impairment. NALSVI shares the broad objectives of its members (to help blind and partially sighted people achieve a high level of skills and independence) and will work to support them as they strive to fulfill their objectives.

NALSVI aims for the UK's independent local societies to be:

  • Well run
  • Adequately funded
  • Providing high quality services including core services
  • Well regarded in their communities
  • Respected nationally as bodies with experience, expertise and influence
  • Involving visually impaired people at all levels within all aspects of service and activity
  • Members of NALSVI

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.
