Aims to help mothers to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and the mother.

La Leche League is an international charity with over 2300 groups meeting in 60 countries. It is the source and repository of the world's most complete, accurate and up-to-date collection of information on breastfeeding. La Leche League (GB) was established in the 1970s and has over 200 leaders and some 70 groups. La Leche League's activities include the following:

  • Mother-to-mother support through local groups and counselling including regular discussion meetings on various aspects of breastfeeding and related parenting issues. Babies and small children are welcome.
  • Telephone counselling when a mother contacts a leader.
  • Correspondence with mothers who contact the above address.
  • Information is available to mothers, health professionals, leaders and members through a large number of books, leaflets (over 100 on different aspects of breastfeeding), tapes and Braille programme. Contact La Leche League for a catalogue.

La Leche League is also involved in training and leader support, a peer counsellor programme, public relations and professional liaison.
