Independent Midwives Association

PO Box 539

Web: www.independentmidwives.org.uk

The Independent Midwives Association exists for the dissemination of information about, and support for, independent midwives, and to lobby for the traditional role of the midwife.

Independent midwives are fully qualified midwives who, in order to practice the midwife's role to its fullest extent, have chosen to work outside the NHS in a self employed capacity, although they support its aims and ideals. The midwife's role encompasses the care of women during pregnancy, birth and afterwards.

These aims are supported in the following ways:

  • By providing a central source for enquires, data, information, reports etc.
  • By holding regular meetings for members.
  • By running workshops for midwives interested in setting up in independent practice.
  • By giving talks about independent practice to interested parties.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
