Barnardo's is the UK's biggest and best known children's charity. There are some 394 services working with more than 115,000 children, young people and families a year. The charity continues to fight the old problems of poverty, homelessness, and child prostitution, and new issues of children coping with HIV/AIDS, or young people who sexually abuse.

The charity's work aims to give children and young people a decent start including adoption and fostering services which provide caring homes for children and young people with special needs. People with learning disabilities are helped to live in the community and Barnardo's provides residential education for young people with behaviour problems or physical or learning disabilities.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
