BACP (the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) represents counselling at national and international levels, aims to promote counselling throughout society and to raise standards of training and practice. BACP has an Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy to which members must adhere and they are subject to the Professional Conduct procedure therein. BACP provides support for counsellors and those using counselling skills working in areas such as education, medical settings, the workplace, etc, and a network of local affiliated groups.

The information and publications office produces unique directories on counselling and training resources and provides information on these and other subjects. Publications include information sheets and booklets on specific counselling topics.

On receipt of a stamped addressed envelope, BACP will send local sections of the 'Counselling & Psychotherapy Resources Directory' and an information sheet about counselling free of charge to individuals seeking a counsellor in their area.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
