About clindamycin lotion

Clindamycin works by killing a wide range of bacteria which can contribute to acne (spots).
Before using clindamycin lotion or solution
Before using clindamycin lotion make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows:
- If you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding.
- If you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine.
How to use clindamycin lotion or solution
- Use as directed by your doctor.
- This medicine is for external use only. Do not put it in your mouth or swallow it. If you do accidentally swallow it tell your doctor immediately or contact the accident and emergency department of your local hospital
.
Getting the most from your treatment
- Do not pick or squeeze spots because this can spread the infection to other pores and cause scarring.
- Wash your face with luke warm water and mild soap. Do not scrub your skin as this can make the acne worse.
- If you wear make-up use a non-comedogenic (will not block pores) product sparingly
- Diet is not thought to affect acne, however if you do notice that certain foods make your spots worse then it may be best to avoid them.
Can clindamycin lotion or solution cause problems
Along with their useful effects all medicines can cause unwanted side effects, which usually improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects continue or become troublesome.
| Common side-effects | What can I do if I experience this |
| Dry skin | If your skin is usually dry anyway, the lotion is better for you, because it wil not dry your skin. If your skin is usually greasy you may benefit from the solution because this will dry the skin. |
| Stinging after application | As you get used to the medicine this may improve. |
| Diarrhoea | If this occurs speak with your doctor or pharmacist immediately. |
How to store clindamycin lotion or solution
- Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
