Myelodysplastic syndromes are a group of diverse bone marrow disorders in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells.
The Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation was established by an international group of physicians and researchers to provide an ongoing exchange of information relating to myelodysplastic syndromes.
A major Foundation effort is their international information network. This network provides patients with referrals to Centres of Excellence, contact names for available clinical trials, sharing of new research and treatment options between physicians, and extension of educational support to both physicians and patients.
In response to the needs expressed by patients, families, and physicians, they have established patient advocacy groups, research funding, and physician education.
The Foundation is actively assisting various countries in setting up their own national MDS patient support group, via a dedicated assistance programme. Please contact the Foundation if you are interested in starting a national group in your country.
