Brave Young Hannah meets the MRI Scanner

by Aymie Lacey

Nice to see you, said Dr Fry
I believe you are here for your MRI
From what I'm told you've not been well
We'll do a test today and see what we can tell

I'm glad you could make it, step over here
And please relax, no need for fear
Right before we start follow me Hannah
We'll pop in this room and meet the scanner

This big white machine can be used whenever
And is like another doctor; very clever
It's like a big camera and helps us see
Whether it's your brain, your back or even your knee

We use it everyday on all types of folk
Might be an older lady or a younger bloke
For as you know Hannah people vary
We treat everyone here, so don't be wary

Now this is the scanner, please say hello
It's a big machine but a friendly fellow
Before your scan you'll need to take off your jewellery
I'll look after it myself; you'll get it back shortly

Sometimes metal can get the poor scanner confused
So any earrings or necklaces you must lose
That is really about the only rule
The scanner's here to help, it's nice and simple

You'll keep on your clothes, unless there's a zip
Then you'll pop on a gown, and that will be it
You might need a little drink, I'll let you know
I promise you'll hardly notice and you won't be alone

Now you see this couch attached to the machine
You'll lie down on that; it's just routine
Once you are comfy and feel relaxed
The couch will slide in and take you back

You'll be safely and comfortably in the scanner
Just relax and smile, you'll be fine Hannah
You'll be inside, but the end will be open
We are all right here no need to be frightened

It's very important that you lay very still
Pretend it's a game, it takes great skill
And while you are inside being a gem
The doctors ask the scanner to take pictures for them

You won't feel a thing; it's like being in bed
Very comfortable, you'll just be awake instead
To help pass the time you can listen to music
If you're really lucky you might get to choose it

While it's doing it's job some noise you'll hear
I'll tell you what to expect so have no fear
It's a loud knocking noise while the scanner is thinking
It needs to bang around for the pictures it's taking

Before you know it the time will have passed
It might take a while but it will go really fast
Thanks to you being so good Hannah
The doctors have got all they need from the scanner

Now while you go home and finish your day
The scanner sits proud for helping you on your way
Now Hannah listen here, there is no doubt
You'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.
