I Spy in Your Little Eye

Has some grit blown into your eye
When walking down the lane?
Foreign bodies such as grit
Can cause the eye some pain.

Eyes are delicate organs
Can be damaged easily
So immediate first aid treatment
Is required for injury.

If your mate's eye's been injured
Say 'Sit here, face the light -
You mustn't rub or touch it,
Or it could affect your sight.'

Separate the eyelids
With your thumb and a finger
Examine every part of their eye
But do try not to linger.

If you see the bit of grit
Wash it out using a glass
Of sterile water if poss -
The smarting then should pass.

If this is unsuccessful,
Providing grit's not stuck in place,
Lift off with a damp tissue
Put the smile back on their face!

If the object's under the eyelid,
Pull upper over lower lid
Or blink the eye under water
To remove the grits that 'hid'

If the object's stuck to the eyeball
Or in the eye's coloured part
Do not attempt to touch it
Or more trouble then could start.

Cover the eye with an eye pad
Bandage both their eyes
Take or send them to hospital
Let the medics supervise.

Your sight is very precious
So treat your eyes with care
They've got to last your whole life
You won't get another pair!
