The Nursing and Midwifery Council exists to protect the public by setting standards for education, training and conduct for nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses in the UK.
They do this by:
- Maintaining a register of qualified nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses.
- Setting standards for conduct, performance and ethics.
- Providing advice for nurses and midwives.
- Considering allegations of misconduct, lack of competence or unfitness to practise due to ill health.
