Autism London is a funded registered charity, originally formed in 1984 by parents concerned about the lack of provision for people with autism and Asperger's syndrome. Autism London was formerly known as North East London Autistic Society (NELAS) but changed its name in 1995 to meet the increased demand of services to cover Greater London.

Autism London provides impartial support, advice and information to individuals, their families and carers, and professionals affected by autism and Asperger's syndrome living in Greater London.

Their four main support areas are:

  • Helpline.
  • Support Services provide outreach, advocacy support and representation. They also run Asperger's groups for adults and hold regular Parent/Carer groups for families and organisations affected by autistic spectrum disorders
  • Social Events - They organise group trips for individuals and families affected by autism.
  • A residential home for adults affected by autism, providing a 'home for life' in a safe and supportive environment
  • Training in aspects of Aspergers, Autism, Learning Disability, Staff Management and Development.
  • Advocacy.
  • Focused solution short term support (not personal care)
  • Local authority commissions for services as above.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
