Depression Alliance is the leading UK charity for people affected by depression.
Depression Self Help Groups provide a forum where people who are affected by depression can meet to share experiences and coping strategies with others in similar situations. Groups aim to provide mutual support and understanding in a non-judgemental, confidential environment. Group meetings are not the same as therapy (although they do have therapeutic value) but many people find that they gain much from the support and understanding of fellow members.
Depression Alliance Cymru:
- Support a network of self-help groups throughout Wales.
- Lobby decision makers for fair and effective treatment for people affected by depression.
- Work in partnership with other voluntary mental health organisations and statutory agencies on campaigning issues, and to improve services.
- Produce a range of publications that cover a variety of depression related topics.
- Run training days for health professionals, organisations and people affected by depression.
Their web site contains information about the symptoms of depression, treatments for depression, as well as Depression Alliance campaigns and local groups.
