The Look Good Feel Better Programme is a free cancer support service for women living with cancer. Groups of up to 10 patients are invited to attend a skincare and makeup workshop where they receive professional advice and guidance on how to cope with emotional and appearance-related side effects of their treatments. The Look Good Feel Better beauticians take the group through a 12-step regime using the bag of 17 products, which is presented to each patient at the beginning of the session. The sessions are informative, involving and great fun.
The Programme has been set up by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Foundation, a registered charity established in 1994, supported by most of the national and international cosmetic companies in the UK. As members, they provide finances and services together with the donation of product and trained volunteer beauticians. The programme is ‘product neutral’ with no cosmetic product, range or manufacturer being promoted. The complimentary bag of products is made up of different brands. Each participant at a group session receives both free advice and a collection of skin care and cosmetics to suit her complexion colour. This enables her to continue to practice and experiment at home. The gift also contains a practical guide for coping with hair loss.
The Programme is available in 56 hospitals throughout the UK. Contact the above address for details of your nearest location or visit the website which includes an interactive map.
