The Burned Children's Club is an independent, voluntary organisation and a pioneering project which helps children and young people regain their self esteem and confidence after a traumatic blow to their young lives.
Every year, two groups of children between the ages of 8 and 18 enjoy a week to remember at Grafham Waters in the heart of rural Cambridgeshire. The first week is for members of the Burned Children's Club based at St. Andrews Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in Chelmsford. The second week is open to young burns victims from across the UK. "By talking to new friends about their injuries and how it affects their lives, they are actually counselling each other." The Camp is open to any child between the ages of 8 and 18 years who has suffered a burn injury.
They have recently started a Parent's Support Group, so that parent's of a child who has suffered a burn injury may meet socially and exchange thoughts and ideas, offer mutual support and to assist the Club in the main fund-raising events. They also run a young adult support group to enable teenagers to keep in touch with each other, and assist in their smooth transition into becoming an adult burn survivor.
They also run Camouflage service for children with scars from a burn injury or any other disfiguring skin condition. Tel: 01268 272 176
