Scottish Care and Information on Miscarriage (SCIM) is a charity managed by people in Scotland who have themselves, suffered miscarriage. Their experiences encompass early and late loss, infertility, and in some cases, childlessness.
SCIM offers a range of support services including advice on miscarriage, future pregnancies and fertility awareness. Their experience in working with families, who have suffered through miscarriage, shows that the following may be beneficial. You are free to choose which services would be of most help to you:
- Miscarriage Counselling - There are many different types of counselling. At SCIM counsellors work in a Person-Centred way. The Person-Centred Approach is based on the idea that every person has within themselves the resources for self understanding, and at SCIM counsellors can help you to develop these resources at their Glasgow base. Counselling can provide a safe supportive relationship where difficulties can be sensitively explored.
- Miscarriage Telephone Support - It may be more suitable for you to talk to someone on the phone, simply use the above contact details and they will offer you an appointment with a trained Advice Practitioner. They may also be able to arrange for you to speak to someone in your area through their “Telephone Support Network” this includes areas throughout Scotland.
- Miscarriage Information - As a registered training centre SCIM provides advice and guidance and information on miscarriage and related issues, including basic medical information, stress management and pre-pregnancy advice. Requests regarding specific medical advice relating to miscarriage are referred to a trained medical practitioner.
- Miscarriage Aftercare - Families who have used their counselling service may also wish to use their stress management programme. This service provides individual support in practical advice on dealing with stress/anxiety. This is offered alongside their counselling service.
