DAS helps survivors of disasters to deal with their traumatic responses, using a humanitarian approach. This is primarily a Rogerian "person-centred" approach where most of all people can feel relatively safe and TIR (short term intervention) to reduced traumatic symptomology.
DAS offers Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) and aims to:
- Reduce the probability of chronic post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) developing in people who have experienced a traumatic event.
- Reduce unwarranted stress in labour relationships.
- Provide Critical Incident Stress Debriefing to groups of employees who have experienced a traumatic event.
- Provide appropriate psychological aftercare for survivors and their families.
- Provide advocacy.
