Carers Scotland (formerly Carers National Association Scotland) is a national carer-led organisation campaigning and working for all carers. Carers look after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid. Carers Scotland is involved in a range of activities including:-

  • Providing information and advice on all aspects of caring to both carers and professionals through CarersLine and their information service.
  • Campaigning at all levels to persuade all those who take decisions affecting carers to adopt policies and practices which will deliver real choices, a sustainable income and a quality of life acceptable to carers and to those they care for.
  • Providing a network of member-led branches, which provide support and information to carers at a local level and provide feedback on local practices and policies for carers.
  • Publishing "Carers" magazine for carers and professionals in Scotland and, as part of Carers UK, "Caring" a magazine for members - both which contains news, information, campaign updates and features of interest to carers.
  • Offer training to professionals on a range of issues affecting carers including benefits, assessments, community care and legislation.

Contact CarersLine or the Information Service for more details.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
