The Bristol Crisis Service for Women is a national charity that offers support to women, with a particular focus on self-injury, (often called self-harm). They provide support through their helpline, information service and training.

The helpline is for women in emotional distress, but the focus is on self-injury. Interpreters are available (women need to be able to say in English which language they would like to speak in and give their telephone number). They are in the process of setting up text and e-mail support services.

The information service has a range of leaflets, booklets and research on the issues surrounding self-injury, including information for young people who self-injure, a training pack and good practice guidelines for people working with people who self-injure. They have information about self-injury in a number of languages and formats.

They offer training to people working with those who self-injure. These are either in the form of one-day workshops for individuals or they offer training to organisation. This training can be tailored to the specific needs of particular organisations.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
