Sound Sense is the UK development agency for community music. They promote the significance and value of community music, and assist the professional development of people practising and participating in it.

They support organisations and individuals who help people make music in their communities, through leading music workshops and teaching, by providing these services:

  • supporting their professional development and providing opportunities to network
  • giving information and advice and helping people make contacts
  • raising awareness of issues in community music
  • running a membership scheme.

For specialist advice, they run the National Music and Disability Information Service. They put people in touch with other disability organisations, give details of musical instruments adapted for disabled users, and provide sources of information and funding

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
