The Scottish Cot Death Trust was formed in 1985 with the following three aims.

  • To fund research into the cause(s) of cot death.
  • To support bereaved families and ensure provision of breathing monitors for infants born into a family which has suffered a cot death.
  • To educate the public and health care professionals about cot death.

The Trust provides information leaflets for professionals and bereaved families as well as contact with a fieldworker. They can also provide a 'befriender', a parent who has suffered a cot death in the past.

The Trust's information leaflets are available free of charge on receipt of an A5 stamped addressed envelope. Titles include the following.

  • Information Leaflet for Bereaved Parents
  • Information Leaflet for Health Visitors
  • Information Leaflet for Family Doctors
  • Information Leaflet for Clergy
  • Information Leaflet for Funeral Directors
  • Information Leaflet for Police Officers
  • Information on the Grief of Children
  • Information on the Grief of Grandparents
  • Facts about Cot Death
  • Reduce the Risk of Cot Death

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
